A great way to improve your photography is to enrich your visual memory by collecting the images of those considered to be masters of photography.

The Phaidon 55 series is an affordable way to start building a photo library, especially the 5-boxed sets.

In my Photo Survey for Teens classes I carefully select age approprite images, and do not include some of the work of artists featured in the Phaidon 55s.

Margaret-Bourke White is a fairly safe study for teens, as is Henri-Cartier Bresson, but even he has a few controversial images in his vast oeuvre.

It is hard to be a serious student of important photographers and not be exposed to at least a few gruesome images or states of undress. Warning: the five box set of experimental photographers includes Joel-Peter Witkin's work which is incredibly disturbing to most people.
